The brief was to open up and rethink an apartment in belsize park
We kept the arrangement of spaces across the floors but opened up the plan on the main level to admit light and air. Storage and worktops are built around the edges leaving the centre free, a bespoke circular island unit and spiral stair giving access to the roof deck were then carefully positioned into the free area.
The apartment is near one of the highest locations in north London and the views of the sky and the city are significant. We used a language of bulkheads to unify the main space under the existing roof and this along with the modular circular elements gives the apartment a slightly aircraft like feel which suits its location and creates a quiet eyrie away from the hustle and bustle.
